Couples Therapy

“Since God created him man and woman, their mutual love becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves man” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1604).

Marriage was designed by God to be a reflection of the love God has for us. While this is a profound and beautiful ideal, marriages are often wrought with pain and suffering that can go unaddressed for years or even decades. If you are struggling in your marriage, you do not have to bear the burden alone.

Dr. Paris uses Relationship Enhancement (RE) therapy to help dating, engaged, and married couples navigate conflict, improve communication, deepen intimacy, and ultimately achieve greater flourishing in their vocation. Specialty areas within couples therapy:

  • Communication Skills

  • Conflict Resolution

  • Rebuilding Trust After Infidelity / Betrayal

  • Sexual Problems

  • Pre-Marital Therapy

Child and Family Therapy

Dr. Paris offers the following modalities for the treatment of children ages 5-10, adolescents, and families:

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT; Ages 5-10): A warm, inviting, and unstructured play space is used to facilitate the process of play therapy. In this environment, children work through unprocessed thoughts and feelings, increase self-regulation, and develop greater agency. This form of therapy works best for children experiencing mood difficulties, behavioral problems, or trauma-related disorders.

Filial Therapy (Parent Training): Dr. Paris trains parents to conduct at-home child-centered play sessions (“special play times”). These sessions are excellent for fostering the parent-child bond.

Adolescent Therapy (Ages 14-17): Dr. Paris uses a blend of exploratory and skills-based therapy, tailored to the adolescent’s need and specific treatment goals.

Family Therapy: Therapy is conducted with at least two members of the family (e.g., a child and one parent), sometimes including the entire family. Complex relational patterns are often best addressed within the context of family therapy.
